Dave Jeanes Interview

Folk music artist, Dave Jeanes.

Where did you grow up?
I was born in a house on the pier in West Dorset. I grew up in between there, and the city of Bristol.
What influenced you to get into music?
Pop music radio was a brand-new thing back then. I listened to everything I could.
At what age did you write your first song?
I was 14. Cycling along to school; humming a tune, it occurred to me I was making it up as I went along.

What is a songwriting session like for you?
Different every time. Sometimes I start with a melody, sometimes a lyric. It's not always important to finish, these days. I just write as much as I have at the time.

Where do you pull your creativity from?
Nowhere specific.

What instruments do you play?
Acoustic guitar is my preferred instrument but I play keyboard too.

Do you collaborate with other artists?
No. I have tried but it's fair to say that I prefer to work alone.

Do you perform live often?
If the fee is right! It's been 8 years...

Tell us about your latest project.
"Rhymes With Bursary" is a 20 track album which came out on September 5th, this year. It's 10 acoustic, 10 electronic. All brand-new songs except my version of "She Moves Through The Fair." All verses now in the correct order.

What can we expect from you in 2020?
I turn 60 in June, so there's a remasters album due out then with 15 of my own personal favourites. Just sequencing it now and it all sounds pretty good!
